Evolving the Clinton Inn Experience
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Clinton, Michigan
April 2026
The Clinton Inn is proud to announce the development of one of the most ambitious projects in the history of our property and the Village of Clinton. Following months of planning and coordination, we are moving forward with the Clinton Inn Skyway Zip Line Experience, a half mile aerial route extending from the top of our historic clock tower to Tate Park. This project represents a new direction in how visitors will experience downtown Clinton.
Once completed, this installation will span approximately one half mile, officially making it the longest zip line in Lenawee County. The system will feature a dual line configuration, allowing two riders to launch simultaneously for side-by-side rides and competitive events.
The launch platform will be integrated directly into the upper structure of the Clinton Inn clock tower, originally dedicated in memory of David K. Van Tuyle and recognized as a prominent downtown landmark, creating a one-of-a-kind departure point overlooking downtown Clinton. From there, riders will travel across the village landscape before arriving at a dedicated landing area near the Ramada at Tate Park.

Grand Opening Weekend and Competitive Events
The Clinton Inn Skyway Zip Line Experience is scheduled to officially open September 25–27, 2026, where it will serve as the centerpiece of the Grand Opening Weekend. Guests will have the opportunity to be among the first to experience the full half mile descent from the clock tower to Tate Park.
As part of the launch, we will host the First Annual Skyway Zip Line Championship. This event will feature head-to-head racing on the dual line system, with participants competing in timed heats throughout the weekend. Finalists will advance to a championship round, culminating in an awards presentation following the final race.
A live announcing system will provide real-time race commentary, including speed estimates, finish margins, and rider introductions. Spectator viewing areas will be positioned near the Tate Park landing zone, allowing guests to follow each race as riders approach the finish.
In addition to daytime events, the weekend will feature the Nighttime Neon Lights Run. During evening hours, both zip lines will be illuminated with synchronized lighting sequences, creating a continuous arc of color across the village skyline. Riders will experience the full route under illuminated conditions, while spectators will be able to view the lighting display from multiple points throughout Clinton.
Special event access packages are currently being planned and may include priority ride scheduling, commemorative items, and expanded viewing access for competition events.
During peak weekend hours, projected rider throughput is expected to exceed several hundred participants per day, positioning the Skyway Zip Line Experience as one of the highest capacity attractions ever introduced during a Grand Opening event in the area.

Strong Support from Local and Regional Leadership
We’ve had a number of conversations with local and regional leaders as this idea has taken shape, and the response has been consistent. There’s a real interest in seeing projects that bring something new and visible to downtown Clinton.
This is not a typical addition. It stands out, and that creates an opportunity to draw attention, bring people in, and give visitors something they will remember.
At the regional level, the scale of the project has been a big part of the conversation. A half mile dual zip line running from the Clinton Inn clock tower to Tate Park is not something you usually see in a community this size. That alone has sparked a lot of discussion about what it could mean for the area, particularly during high-traffic weekends and peak seasonal activity.
There’s also been a broader recognition that doing something different matters. Not every idea needs to look the same as what’s already been done. In many cases, it’s the projects that stand out the most that end up having the biggest impact.
What we’ve heard, over and over, is simple. If you’re going to do something, make it visible. Make it memorable. And give people a reason to talk about it.
Based on early feedback, this is expected to accomplish all three.
Design, Engineering, and Rider Experience

The Clinton Inn Skyway Zip Line Experience has been carefully designed to deliver a highly engineered and memorable ride from launch to landing. The system will span approximately one half mile from the clock tower to Tate Park, incorporating a dual line configuration that allows two riders to descend simultaneously.
The launch platform will be constructed within the upper structure of the Clinton Inn clock tower and will include a staged departure system to ensure consistent spacing and optimal rider experience. From this elevated position, riders will accelerate along a precision-tensioned cable system engineered for both speed and stability across the full route.
Preliminary projections estimate peak rider speeds approaching 45 miles per hour under standard conditions, with variation based on rider weight, wind, and launch synchronization. A calibrated braking zone near the landing platform will provide smooth, controlled deceleration.
In addition to daytime operation, the experience will feature a fully integrated Nighttime Neon Lights Run, with synchronized LED illumination along both lines creating a visible arc across the village skyline. Lighting patterns will be programmable for seasonal themes, special events, and competitive races.
To enhance the experience, aerial photo capture units will be installed at multiple points along the route, capturing mid-flight images of riders. Additional enhancements under evaluation include timed race tracking, launch countdown systems, and structured competition formats.
Each rider will be fitted with a custom harness system optimized for aerodynamic positioning. Wind conditions will be monitored in real time, and the system design accounts for seasonal temperature variation to maintain consistent cable tension. A dedicated launch coordinator will oversee each departure to ensure proper synchronization of dual riders.
Feedback from Community Leaders
Local and regional leaders have been uniformly supportive, noting that the project represents a clear and noticeable addition to the area’s available activities.
Special Event Rides: Limited Runs. Unlimited Consequences.
Throughout the year, select conditions unlock a rotating lineup of special event rides that push the zipline well beyond anything resembling normal operation. These are not everyday experiences. These are deliberately overbuilt, slightly unhinged scenarios where weather, speed, and questionable decision-making come together for something far more memorable than a standard ride. Availability is unpredictable, outcomes are inconsistent, and participation strongly suggests a willingness to see how things play out.
Tazmanian Devil Whirlwind Ride
Limited to active tornado warnings only
When the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for Lenawee County, we unleash the Tazmanian Devil Whirlwind. Harness up, tuck in like the cartoon Taz, and get whipped into a high-speed spinning vortex as the real Midwest tornado powers your ride. Blur across the field screaming “Yahoo! Yahoo! Yahoo!” while spinning like a living dust devil. The tornado does all the work — we just supply the cable. Side effects: dizziness, lost shoes, raw corn cravings, and silo-munching urges. Spots extremely limited.
Who’s crazy enough to ride the whirlwind with Taz?

Ice Storm Glacial Slide
Available only during active ice storms
When an ice storm hits Lenawee County, the zipline turns into the Ice Storm Glacial Slide.
Harness up and become a human ice skate on a thick, frozen cable coated in icicles. Expect maximum wobbling, uncontrollable slip-and-slide chaos, accidental 360 spins, and dramatic crashes into giant snowbanks at the end.
Helmets mandatory — we’re not responsible for ice-induced dancing or frozen eyebrows.
Who’s brave enough to skate the ice apocalypse?

Thunderstruck Lightning Run
Available only during active thunder and lightning storms
When lightning starts cracking overhead, the zipline becomes the Thunderstruck Lightning Run.
Every bolt gives you a dramatic strobe boost while thunder shakes the cable. Race down screaming “Thor!” as you try to time your ride between strikes. Expect hair-raising adrenaline and occasional static shocks.
Helmets mandatory — we’re not responsible for temporary glowing or sudden god-complexes.
Who’s brave enough to get Thunderstruck?

Blackout Void Run
Available only during total power outages
When the power goes out across Lenawee County, the zipline turns into the Blackout Void Run.
Complete darkness. Only headlamps and occasional lightning flashes light your way. Fly blind through the void with nothing but the wind and your screams. We may release glowing fireflies or LED drones for extra surreal chaos.
Helmets mandatory — we’re not responsible for existential dread or “I can’t see the ground” panic.
Who’s crazy enough to ride the void?

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can two people ride at the same time
Yes. The system is built for two riders launching simultaneously on parallel lines. While it can be used for casual rides, that is not the primary intent. The design favors direct competition, with synchronized starts and decisive finishes. One rider will arrive first. That part is not negotiable.
Q: How long is the ride
About 45 to 60 seconds. It will feel shorter if you’re winning.
Q: How fast will riders go
Standard rides are calibrated to approximately 45 miles per hour. For those seeking more, a performance upgrade is available that unlocks “Pro Mode,” allowing speeds in the 78 to 80 mph range, depending on conditions and personal decisions. Peak velocity typically occurs mid-route. This is also when most riders reconsider their earlier decisions.
Q: What positions are allowed
Riders may choose from several approved positions depending on experience and confidence:
- Standard Seated – for those interested in arriving normally
- Superman – full face-forward flight, preferred for racing
- Aero Tuck – for riders prioritizing speed over comfort
- The Casual Lean – appears relaxed, is not
- Reverse Perspective – facing backward to reconsider decisions
- The One-Leg Drift – suspended by one leg, the rest follows
Special Event Position:
- Tasmanian Devil – rotational chaos, available only during active tornado conditions
Q: Can I pass the other rider mid-air
Yes. That’s the point. The dual lines are built for head-to-head racing, and passing mid-air is expected as riders reach peak speed.
If you’re not gaining on the other rider, you are not going hard enough.
Q: Is there a strategy to winning
Yes. Go faster than the other person.
Q: Can I influence the outcome of the race
Direct interference, including kicking, grabbing, or throwing objects, is technically prohibited. Observation will be limited, and most incidents will be considered part of the experience.
Any actions not directly observed will fall under our standard policy of plausible deniability.
Q: What if I don’t want to race
You will still be compared.
Q: Is there a prize for winning
Yes. It’s called winning.
Q: What if I blink or close my eyes during the ride
You will miss part of it. This is a personal decision.
Q: What happens if I stop halfway
This is highly unlikely under normal conditions.
If a rider does come to a complete stop, a line-mounted recovery robot will be deployed to make contact and push the rider to the landing platform. Upon arrival, the rider will receive a Medal of Shame to commemorate the unfortunate incident.
Q: What happens if I miss the landing
You won’t. The system is designed to ensure all riders arrive within close proximity to the landing pad at Tate Park.
In the unlikely event that a rider lands in a nearby yard or unintended location, arrangements have been made to deliver a lemonade and a sandwich. This will be considered full and final compensation.
Q: Is this safe
Technically speaking, Yes. Emotionally, results may vary. Losses may result in sadness and shame.
Q: Is there a weight limit
Yes. Rider load is evaluated within a multi-factor system that accounts for cable mass, dynamic tension, harness configuration, and overall gravitational participation.
For reference, the primary cable weighs approximately 1,450 pounds and is supported well beyond that threshold. When combined with distributed load balancing and standard rider equipment, additional weight has been determined to fall within acceptable parameters.
If you believe your individual contribution may meaningfully impact system performance, we can arrange a brief consultation with engineering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a reservation during Grand Opening Weekend
No. Reservations are not required. They are only recommended if you would like to ride. A queue is expected to form at street level, wrap the building, and progress through all three floors before reaching the clock tower. Movement will be steady and upward. Light refreshments will be available along the way.
Q: Is there an age limit
There is no strict age limit. Riders must be able to independently complete the full route from the Clinton Inn clock tower to Tate Park.
As part of the pre-launch process, riders will complete a short series of evaluations, including balance verification, reaction testing, and a controlled funny bone reflex assessment. Results must meet minimum thresholds before departure.
Q: Can I bring personal items on the ride
Loose items are not recommended during flight, and secure storage will be available prior to launch. Riders should avoid bringing anything not firmly secured, including laptops for mid-flight spreadsheet updates, open containers of soup, glassware, folding furniture, or any attempt to complete light office work, as the zip line is not a stable working environment.
Q: Can I bring food or drinks on the ride
Yes. Food and beverages are allowed. That said, items such as spaghetti, hot coffee in an open cup, loose cereal with milk, or anything involving sauce, steam, or careful handling are not recommended during descent.
Q: Will I want to do it again
Only if nothing went wrong the first time. Outcomes tend to influence future decisions.
Q: Will there be photos available
Yes. Riders will be photographed mid-flight at several points along the route. Selfies are not recommended for safety reasons and may interfere with the onboard stabilization systems.
Riders should assume all actions are being recorded and plan accordingly, including any last-second wardrobe adjustments, early celebrations, or visible reconsideration of decisions. All images will be rendered in full 3D and available for immediate review at the finish line.
Q: Will the zip line operate in all weather conditions
While most facilities suspend activity in high winds, storms, or other adverse conditions, we embrace these conditions and have designed the zip line to take full advantage of them. When weather conditions reach peak intensity, the zip line transitions into a series of extreme weather experiences, including tornado-powered rotational runs, ice-coated glide descents, lightning-enhanced acceleration events, and full blackout operations. Availability is strictly limited to active conditions and cannot be scheduled in advance.
Guests who hear warning sirens, observe sudden darkness, or experience rapid atmospheric changes should follow all standard safety precautions while also recognizing that premium ride conditions may be developing.
Q: Has construction already begun
All required approvals have been verbally confirmed, with formal paperwork scheduled for submission next week. Construction will begin as soon as weather conditions allow and continue through the summer, with completion targeted ahead of the September 25–27, 2026 Grand Opening Weekend. The project is currently fully on schedule.
Q: How does this fit into the historical role of the Clinton Inn
The Inn has long served travelers moving through the region. This is a more efficient continuation of that role.
Q: Does this change how guests experience the Inn
Yes. The experience now includes velocity. This introduces a new dimension to the traditional stay.
Q: Will this be included with an overnight stay
Yes. It will be visible from your room. Guests may observe active descents, competitive outcomes, and occasional moments of reflection.
Q: Can I get married on the zip line
Yes. Ceremonies begin at the launch platform and conclude at the finish line. Vows are exchanged at altitude. The kiss is delivered upon landing. The reception will be held in the Ballroom. Return transportation is not included.
Q: How does this affect the US-12, the historic highway that passes through Clinton
The route has been used since the early 1800s and is now recognized as a scenic byway. This is the first time a zip line has been incorporated into the viewing experience.
